News: Pandora’s Tower and stuff

Well it’s a pretty slow week for Nintendo based news to be honest, so lets get some things out of the way.

Donkey Kong Country returns has sold a very impressive 4.21 million copies worldwide within a month of release, and I actually predicted at the time it would be overshadowed by Super Mario All Stars. How wrong I was! A job well done for retro studios on this, sales are great and reviews are phenomenal.

A Kirby game for the Wii was announced but seeing as I did just do a preview for Kirby’s Epic Yarn yesterday I won’t go into this one.

New Super Mario Bros. 3DS” announced was the headline doing the rounds the other day, but reading the Miyamoto quote he actually said in the latest Iwata asks was “In the interests of adopting new technology for the Super Mario Bros. tradition, I am now making a new Super Mario Bros. game for the Nintendo 3DS system…It’s important to always use the most advanced technology for Mario in order to create something no one has ever seen before.” So he’s making a new SMB game for the 3DS and not NSMB3DS as the headlines seemed to suggest. This I’m excited about, whether it is a NSMB game or a new SMB game it should be pretty fun and we’ll see how the 3DS and Mario work on innovation.

The main story is of a game called “Pandora’s Tower” not much is known about is aside from it’s due for release by the end of Quarter2 and has this image:

Blonde girl + Nintendo + Tat = A lot of excited geeks!

To me that looks like an RPG which is something Nintendo hasn’t really pushed itself into 100% in my opinion (well sort of Golden Sun but you know what I mean), though I can’t help but noticing how similar her tat is to the Sheikah symbol which would be a cool game to do (RPG based on the Sheikah from the LOZ series) but it’s 99% likely coincidental. You can check the preview at but being in Japanese there’s not much I can read from it. Apparently the girl says ““Will you be happy to die beautiful, or live long ugly?” when you go onto the site and it seems to be a bit more gritty than most things we’ve seen (aside from Sin and Punishment and Eternal Darkness).  I guess time will tell on this one.
